Postcard #3 From a Busy Person- Illustrated

It has been said that 'the idle mind is the devil's playground'  There is no doubt that the mind is at its most vulnerable when it is unoccupied and I have experienced this to its fullest over the past 5 months since my stroke.  With more time to think I often find myself revisiting conversations, relationships and moments that may have been, sometimes to my detriment.  Doubts, questions and regrets and disappointments creep in and struggle to evict these from my mind.  My most loyal and reliable weapon against this is action.  I have been diverting my energies into positive, creative and constructive pursuits that exercise both mind and body and keep ugly thoughts away.
Friends wonder why I am so busy even now! Well, apart from starting my day to music and writing each morning at 5am, I am following an intensive daily programme of rehabilitative exercise varying from Hydrotherapy to Gym and Tai Chi.  Each is doing its part in restoring my physical strength and stamina so I may, one day return to work.

In between these 'sergeant major-like boot camps' I fit in my creative pursuits, piano with Sally, Art with Dolores, Singing with Ranjana and lacemaking with Christine.  Together these angels bring light and joy into my life filling an otherwise dark canvas with colour of hope and beauty. Rather like my project  of the week at Art class as per my illustration bringing life and colour to a sheet of black paper.  I salute these champions for helping me keep the devil away!
