Postcard # 7- Trying not be a Health Voyeur

How often have you found yourself watching a fitness class or instructional video without actually joining in?  In a media-dominated world we are bombarded from all sides with information and advice about healthy living.  How many of us actually follow through and act upon the advice is often reflected in the swings and trends in shopping statistics and rise in wasted fitness club memberships? So, how easy is it to get off that couch and take your first steps towards health?

I found myself watching a yoga programme at 6am this morning advising me to adopt certain breathing exercises which purport to lowering blood pressure. Sounds easy, logical and very useful I heard my myself say but before I knew it, the programme was finished and I found myself sitting back at my laptop.  Habits are so easy to form but so difficult to change,

It takes a great sense of purpose and will to make significant changes in our lifestyle especially when it has become like a comfortable old pair of slippers. But unless we make those changes life has a way of becoming as tired, haggard and worn as the appearance of those slippers.

So what will it take, for us to take those first steps towards a healthier and more fufilling life? Well, a slap in the face for me was the stroke that I suffered over a year ago but apparently it was not enough because although I have made many changes they have still not been enough to tip the scales in my favour.

A recent visit to a prestigious gathering of ladies in business made me realise how much my life had changed and what I had left behind. These wonderful ladies were achieving their goals, realising this dreams and I was watching the dust settle on mine.

It was on that day that I decided to take some new initiatives and change direction.  It is far too easy to give up and accept defeat.
I start my day now with a morning walk and along this walk I take pictures of the life that surrounds me. That goes on, regardless of, restrictions, changes and constraints and continues to flourish and bloom. Here follow a few examples:

It reminded me of one of my favourite quotes, 'Be the change you want to see in the world' ................and this I can only do by BEING! '   .
